Reading Assignment: Black Boy
First reading assignment: Black Boy by Richard Wright
Due the week we come back from break.
Here are some guiding questions. Underline parts of the passages that address these questions and notate which question they address. Choose 3 or more:
What made Richard’s job difficult and frustrating for him?
How did Richard’s past experiences affect his perceptions and actions on this job?
Why did Richard lie to Mr. Hoffman?
Why did he quit?
Did Richard make the right decision? In his shoes, what would you have done?
What do you think Richard learned from this experience?
How might what he learned affect how he would act in the future?
What does Richard’s experience help you see what is important to pay attention to when working at a job?
What does the story help you see about what kinds of things we learn through work?
